The part that rankled me was the twisting. People said “He hates America” or “He hates Veterans” or the flag, or the anthem, or some other symbolic, jingoistic bullshit that has nothing to do with the heart of what this country ought to be about. The thing is, folks got all angry in their self-righteous indignation and manufactured a reason to be upset… it was easier to so that than deal with the reality that law enforcement was serving as judge, jury, and executioner to black men and women.
